You’re Not the Pilot, Sis—And That’s a Good Thing

Theme: Surrendering control, trusting God with direction

Hey Truthwalker,

Let me just say this: I’ve tried flying the plane. And it’s exhausting.
Not the real one—although wouldn’t that be wild and God would have a tell me to hang it up lol. The plane I have been flying, is the one where I try to control every detail of my life. I tried to control every outcome, every timeline, and every response.

The truth? I used to wear that control like a badge of honor. “If I don’t do it, who will?” I bet God was sitting back with His hands behind His head. He was saying, “Go ahead and let me see how far you get.”
But behind that confidence was a whole lot of fear. Fear that if I didn’t make it happen, no one would. I feared I had to work more than two jobs. I needed to attempt to run a business, raise the kids, pay the bills, and be a wife. Also, I kept telling myself God I trust you. But I hesitated with little faith. I feared He might take too long… or forget. Where are the promises Daddy, because I am tired?!
So I took the pilot’s seat. Gripping the wheel. Determined to make it all work.
But control, sis, doesn’t equal peace.

The Lie of the Pilot Seat
Psalm 32:8 says,

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you.”

The moment I really read that verse, it hit me:
I’ve been flying solo in areas of my life where God already mapped the route.

What I saw as “taking charge,” He saw as me carrying a burden I wasn’t built for.
I had to learn how to step out of the cockpit—and into surrender.

A Real Talk Moment from Me
There was a season when everything looked like it was falling apart.
My kids needed more than 40% of me. My work was shifting and my immediate supervisor was creating an unhealthy environment.
I kept asking God, “Where are You? I can’t do this without direction.”
And He whispered, “Exactly.”
He didn’t ask me to direct the flight—He asked me to trust Him through the turbulence.

Blueprint Moment:
Where in my life have I been gripping the wheel, when God is asking me to trust His guidance?

Prayer:
God, I’ve been trying to pilot things You never asked me to.
Today, I give You the seat.
I don’t know every destination, but I trust You to land me safely in purpose and peace.
Teach me to rest… even midair.

If that prayer resonated with you, repeat it everyday this week.

Surrender and get out the cockpit. It feels good to be honest, join me.

Let’s Keep Going Light:
Next week, we’re going to talk about what you’re still carrying. Because you can’t take off when your bags are packed with what God already told you to lay down. Don’t be the bag lady.
